Floyd Mayweather vs Logan Paul fight money ‘leaked’ with boxing legend set to pocket millions

2 Mins read

Floyd Mayweather is set to receive $5million [£4million] upfront for taking on Logan Paul in an exhibition bout next year, according to reports.

The boxing legend, who made a surprise appearance at Wembley Arena to watch Anthony Joshua knock out Kubrat Pulev on Saturday night, is scheduled to meet Paul on 20 February 2021 after striking a shock deal with the YouTube star.

It will be his first appearance in the ring since an exhibition against Tenshin Nasukawa on New Year’s Eve in 2018, which saw him rake in $9million [£7million] after forcing the Japanese kickboxer’s team to throw the towel in the first round.

However, it is unclear whether Mayweather will receive the same amount when he locks horns with Paul, as entertainment reporter Daniel Keem claims he will make a guaranteed $5million upfront. The former four-weight world champion will then collect a reported 50 per cent of all pay-per-view sales, according to Keem’s “pretty dead on” source.

Paul, on the other hand, will only be paid a guaranteed $200,000 [£151,000] along with five per cent of the PPV sales.
The online sensation earned a reported $900,000 [£681million] for his sole professional boxing contest against fellow YouTuber KSI in 2019, which ended in a controversial split-decision points defeat.

And Keem has a theory as to why Paul is prepared to take such a smaller fee in his clash with Mayweather.“I personally think it’s clout,” he said on his YouTube channel DramaAlert.

“This is going to be such a big match, he might not make a ton of money with this contract – but it might be worth it for him to have the opportunity to be a legend.”

Mayweather was involved in the four highest-grossing boxing matches of all time during his legendary 21-year career, which saw him bow out from the sport with a perfect 50-0 record. He made an estimated £224million in his so-called ‘Fight Of The Century’ against Manny Pacquiao in 2015.
