Ho: Police officer accused of defiling girl,13, granted 50k bail

A Ho Circuit Court has granted a GHS50,000 bail with two sureties to Sgt. Emmanuel Duah, 46, a police officer who allegedly defiled a 13-year-old girl at Ave-Xevi in the Akatsi North District of the Volta in September 2021.

The victim, a class 6 pupil, now 14, was allegedly lured into a yet-to-be-commissioned police post on September 29, 2021 by the accused who forcefully had sexual intercourse with her.

More than a year after the incident, nothing much was heard of the case a situation that prompted GHOne News’ Faisel Abdul-Iddrisu to pursue the matter to the Volta Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service and the office of the Attorney General using an RTI request.

Prosecution according to the office of the AG was due to commence on or before November 30, 2022 at the Sogakope Circuit.

But today, the accused popularly known as Bob Marley made a first-time appearance at a Ho Circuit Court.

Narrating the facts, the prosecution told the court that the accused on the said day of the incident, requested from the victim to buy him water, a request the victim declined and insisted on seeking permission from her parents before she could run the errand for the officer.

The court heard that the accused forcibly lured the victim into the room and defiled her.

But the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement.

The presiding judge upon hearing the facts, granted the accused bail.

The Court was, however, unhappy about the late arrival of the accused in court on Wednesday and cautioned him not to repeat same at the next hearing.

The case has been adjourned to February 22, 2023.
