PROF. DR MARYLYN ADDO OF GHANAIAN DESCENT IN THE FOREFRONT OF DEVELOPING VACCINE FOR DEADLY CORONAVIRUS

When it comes to the fight against the coronavirus, Germany seems to be prepared to battle the infectious disease with Prof. Dr Marylyn M. Addo as a leading specialist.

Prof. Dr Addo is a German-born doctor of Ghanaian descent who specializes in creating vaccines used in the treatment of infectious diseases. Her father is a Ghanaian doctor while her mother, on the other hand, is from Germany.

She received her medical degree from the University of Bonn, Faculty of Medicine and has been practising as a doctor for more than 20 years.

She is highly specialized in pathogenic infections and has worked for several high ranking institutions such as the Harvard Medical School in Boston and the Nelson Mandela Medical School, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban.
She also holds a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene in London and has won the Ralph A. Neal Memorial Prize.

Prof. Addo has contributed to the creation of vaccines to help fight the outbreak of Ebola when it broke out in 2016. In collaboration with other scientists, she was selected as a participant of a WHO founded expert consortium called VEBCON, which aimed at finding rapid and coordinated clinical Ebola vaccine testing.

She is currently leading the project that is geared towards helping to find and organise funding for the deadly infectious disease.
