The Safest Country for Solo Travelers in 2023: Study Reveals Top Destination for Independent Travelers

Traveling alone in a foreign country can be a daunting task and that is why it’s essential to consider safety as a key parameter.

Japan has been named the best getaway destination in 2023 for solo travelers. A study conducted by Bounce (luggage specialists), found that Japan has a safety index of 76.9 out of 100; the highest safety index globally, followed by Switzerland and Slovenia.

Cities like Osaka and Tokyo are perfect for an adventurer who is safety-minded and they are likely to fit in at ease.

Safety is linked to criminal offending and Japan has a crime index of 23.1 out of 100 which is the lowest globally. The low crime rates make a visit to Japan a worthwhile one and you can explore the cultural-rich country without fear for your well-being.

Traveling solo is a norm that is widely accepted in Japan. It is evident in multiple cafes and restaurants, with most incorporating counter side tables as part of their furniture.

In the past, most solo travelers in Japan were business people on business trips and office workers. However, times have changed and the young generations are increasingly embracing solo trips.

Japan is reputable for its safety, and most locals can leave their properties at a table unguarded. It is also safe for women to walk at night and solo travelers don’t have to worry about taking evening strolls in the city.

Japan may have the lowest crime rate but it still doesn’t mean that travelers shouldn’t take precautions. It is essential for travelers to always be aware of their surroundings especially when walking in dark alleys.

Another key reason why Japan is the safest country for solo travelers is the constant presence of police boxes popularly known as koban in most neighborhoods. The presence of law enforcement in all localities means that they can respond to distress calls swiftly.

Solo travelers should consider a visit to Japan mainly due to its safety and the low probability of harassment from strangers. Accommodation is readily available across all cities.
